Vortex Technology Group (VTG) partners with Conestoga College’s SMART Centre

To develop and test Power Conversion System (PCS) infrastructure required for VTG’s Supercapacitor Battery Energy Storage Solutions (BESS) supporting Fast Charge Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.

Cambridge Ontario, February 6, 2023. Vortex Technology Group has entered into a Research & Development agreement with the Smart Manufacturing & Advanced Recycling Technologies (SMART) Centre at Conestoga College to develop and test the PCS ecosystem required for VTG’s Supercapacitor Battery Energy Storage Solution which supports the rapid growth of EV Charging Stations required to meet expected consumer demand.

The agreement leverages VTG’s leadership role in establishing their next generation energy storage solution for this application with Conestoga’s renewable energy focus and expertise in power systems engineering.

“I’m very excited about the outcome of this R&D project with Conestoga College and the SMART Centre,” said Brian Walters, CEO of VTG, “as it enables us to showcase our next generation renewable energy storage solution which is ideally suited for EV Fast Charging Stations”.

Over the foreseeable future, we see an exponentially growing need to provide environmentally sustainable energy storage solutions in the Fast EV Charging space which will offload power grid demand during peak power periods and mitigate the need to increase power generation capacity.

“VTG is an exciting new addition to the SMART Centre applied research portfolio, and is providing excellent student training opportunities in the field of power systems design and testing”, said Ig Kolenko, executive director of Conestoga’s SMART Centre . “SMART Centre faculty and student engagement from Conestoga’s Power Systems Engineering (PSE) degree in this collaborative research partnership with VTG is helping drive innovation in a very critical area of Canada’s goal to decarbonize.”
